IV (intravenous) sedation is a conscious sedation treatment, though some patients have been known to fall asleep after receiving it. It is commonly used alongside local anesthetics to help reduce pain and discomfort as well as dental anxiety and fear. IV sedation administers medication directly to the bloodstream in order to help you feel comfortable and relaxed. After receiving this treatment, you should be aware of where you are and what is happening, and able to respond to any instructions our dentist provides.

Prior to receiving IV sedation, you will need to meet with a dentist in an individual consultation. During this appointment, we will discuss your medical history, your dental needs, and other relevant factors to determine if IV sedation is the best option for you. If you receive this treatment, we will monitor you closely throughout your entire treatment to ensure that you do not experience any complications. IV sedation is generally very safe, however, and there is almost never any cause for concern.

When you visit our office for a treatment involving IV sedation, you will need to bring someone with you to drive you home. We also advise that you have someone available to remain with you for a few hours after you have returned home.
